American Eagle

Full title:  American Eagle in the Pacific

This war poster was painted aboard the USS Indianapolis in August 1944.  Dr. Henry was expressing the emotions of Americans fighting in the Pacific.

The American Eagle in front of the 48 star flag is gripping a serpent which is dripping blood and has a tiny tattered Japanese army flag tied to its tail.

A gold foil seal of the USS Indianapolis Survivors Association (with their permission) is attached to the bottom left corner, adding to the visual appeal of the image.  

Image size is 11 1/4" x 13 1/2". Total paper including white border is 15 3/4" x 18 1/2". This is a numbered edition of 1850 plus 75 ap.
